Athletes’ Commission
South African women’s hockey co-captain Marsha Marescia is the chairperson of the 10-member Athletes Commission which is set to become an important ‘go-between’ for athletes, federations and SASCOC. Others on the commission include Ernst van Dyk, Natalie du Toit and Ramon Di Clemente. All three have won medals at an Olympics or Paralympics and therefore bring a wealth of experience on board the commission, which has been elected for the next four years.
The purpose of SASCOC’s Athletes Commission is to make provision for the athletes’ input to be taken into account in SASCOC’s decision-making. The commission will also provide advice and guidance to SASCOC on issues that are critical to athletes, ensure that the rights of athletes are respected, nominate athletes to sit as representatives on commissions of SASCOC that directly affect athletes, maintain contact with the IOC Athletes Commission and interact with the High Performance Commission.
Marescia is also a member of the High Performance Commission and a member of the SASCOC board.
